We were thrilled to interview another talented provider this month: Veronica Pallini from L’Autèntica, an innovative theatre and film school, exhibition hall, production company and project laboratory in Gràcia!

Where are you from originally?

I’m originally from Buenos Aires

How long have you been living in Barcelona?

20 years

Tell us more about your background and experience. I am a doctor in social anthropology from the University of Barcelona (cum laude), actress, teacher and theatre researcher. I specialise in theatre pedagogy and explore various creative techniques associated with expressive and therapeutic work. I have been teaching theatre training classes since 1993.

When did you decide to start L’Autèntica? How long has the business been open?

More than 15 years ago, in 2006, I started teaching theatre classes at my home. In May, I already had a group and in June, we formed another. And it was in July that I set up a training school: ‘La escuelita’. We were giving classes at my house and renting studio space until, in 2009, we rented the local ‘Iglesia 4’ and converted it into a school and theatre room: ‘Porta 4.’ From there, we began to create the school. First for adults and later for children and young people. The project was also a showroom; we held performances for adult audiences and, later, for children.

Over time, we grew with the help of advisors, and in 2020 we took an exponential leap and moved to a new, larger space on Martí Street. From there, we decided to create our own production company, specialised in children’s audiences. This was also when we changed our name, and L’autèntica was born.

What activities/services do you offer?

We offer theatre for all ages. We are a school, theatre and production company.

Our programming is focused on kids’ from 0 to 6 years old. As a school, we arouse passions. We accompany students from the age of 9 onwards to live the theatrical trade, because there is no age limit for theatre; we can all be actors.

As a production company, we create and support innovative artistic proposals, with a careful pedagogical and aesthetic component, aimed at the smallest and the oldest.

What is your teaching philosophy? What sets your business apart?

In the school, we work with our own methodology based on the research I carried out during my doctoral thesis: ‘Antropología del Hecho Teatral. Etnografía de un teatro dentro del teatro.’ The objective of our method is to expand the expressive and aesthetic possibilities of each student. We train perceptive, intelligent and autonomous actors through the development of personal creativity, trust and comprehensive awareness of each individual, who is alive and present in the theatrical event and in the scenic environment.

Anything else you’d like to share? We have a beautiful space to share with you near Plaça del Nord in Gràcia. L’autèntica is open to everyone, from 0 to 100. We are waiting for you!
